Jammu and Kashmir Police Saturday late evening issued a press statement detailing the events which led to shutdown in Batamaloo area of Srinagar early today.

The statement is being re-produced here verbatim

23 April: Today, during checking by Traffic Police, one person namely Nasrullah Mir son of Abdul Razaq resident of Darwani Batamaloo was stopped by Traffic Cops at Kaman Post, Batamaloo and was asked to show the documents of his vehicle.

During the checking, he physically assaulted Sub Inspector Farooq Ahmad who suffered grievous injuries. The injured SI was shifted to Hospital.

Nasrullah Mir also got some minor injuries and was shifted to Hospital where his condition is stable. A case FIR No 46/2016 has been registered into the matter in Police Station Batamaloo and investigation has been taken up.
