SRINAGAR: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has seized 1,095 gold-coloured jewellery articles from an outlet in Jammu over suspected misuse of the BIS Hallmark/Standard Mark.
The seizure was made during a search and seizure operation conducted by the BIS Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office at the jewellery outlet, the standards body said in a statement.
According to BIS, the outlet representative described the seized items as “coated jewellery”, “imitation jewellery” and “1 gram gold plated jewellery”. Such products are not treated as gold-alloy jewellery or artefacts covered under the BIS Hallmarking Scheme.
The officials found the articles carrying attached tags bearing a triangular mark resembling or purporting to be the BIS Hallmark/Standard Mark.
The jewellery items, along with documentary evidence, were seized under Section 28 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
BIS said further action would be initiated under the applicable provisions of the Act, Rules and Regulations.
