SRINAGAR: Police have seized 658 gold-coloured biscuits and coins from a vehicle during naka checking near Vessu on the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Qazigund and detained three persons for questioning.
According to a police statement, a naka party intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number MP09CS0451 near Vessu and detained its three occupants.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 658 biscuits and coins, each weighing around 0.98 grams. The material was seized after police found it suspicious.
Police said the recovered items were subsequently examined and found to be copper plates coated with a gold-coloured substance rather than pure gold.
A preliminary enquiry has been initiated at Police Station Qazigund vide DD Report No. 16 dated September 17 and Order No. SDPO/Q/PE/8230 dated September 18.
The enquiry is aimed at establishing the source of the material, the circumstances surrounding its possession and its intended use, besides determining the role of the three persons.
Further investigation is underway.
