SRINAGAR: Pulwama Police have registered a case against BJP Pulwama district president Showkat Gayoor following a complaint alleging repeated demands for money, intimidation, obstruction of vehicles and harassment in connection with soil extraction and transportation work being carried out for Gurudwara Parbandhak, Barthana.
The FIR, registered as No. 0145/2026 at Police Station Pulwama on August 10, was filed on the complaint of Mohammad Yaseen Ganie of Suthsoo BK Pora, Budgam.
According to the complaint, Ganie claimed to have obtained permission from the competent authorities for extraction and transportation of soil. He alleged that Gayoor repeatedly interfered with the work and demanded Rs 5 lakh, threatening to stop the work if the money was not paid.
The complainant further alleged that on August 8, around 10:50 am, Gayoor arrived at the work site in Parigam and parked his vehicle in front of the vehicles engaged in the work, allegedly preventing them from moving.
He alleged that Gayoor subsequently abused and threatened drivers and workers at the site and recorded videos on his mobile phone while accusing them of carrying out illegal work.
The complaint further alleges that when workers questioned the obstruction, Gayoor threatened them with action under the Public Safety Act (PSA), allegedly telling them that they would be “booked under PSA”.
Ganie also alleged that similar threats of PSA action had repeatedly been used to pressure him into meeting the alleged monetary demands.
The FIR contains another allegation that ₹54,000 had previously been paid to Gayoor. According to the complaint, ₹50,000 was paid on November 21, 2025, followed by another ₹4,000 the next day. The complainant has alleged that the payments were made under pressure and amid continued threats and obstruction.
Police have registered the case under Sections 126(2), 351(2), 308(2) and 308(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Bashir Ahmad Dar has been assigned as the investigating officer.
The complainant has sought verification of the alleged payments, examination of drivers and workers who were present at the site, and an inquiry into whether similar demands were allegedly made from other persons.
The allegations are yet to be established through investigation.
