Silver Star Hotel Shootout
Silver Star Hotel Shootout

Two workers of the Silver Star hotel on Srinagar bypass were killed and another injured in an attack that even Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is unwilling to say was a militant action. There are many theories in circulation touching history, geography and commerce of the place but the last word about the enigma is still awaited. Police ended at saying that militants wanted to attack a convoy of security personnel but aborted the idea. There were pictures showing bullet-made-holes on a troop vehicle. It seems to be a confusing incident that was confounded by claim of a militant outfit. The outfit has even claimed to have filmed the attack.

DELHI

Amid reports of a possible rapprochement, there came a bombshell. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s estranged wife Payal Singh is trying to get BJP ticket to contest polls. Reports from Delhi suggest she has met BJP boss, Nitin Gadkari, on two occasions and expressed her willingness to join the party. She is reportedly keen on a party ticket from Bijnore in UP where she runs a school under the Rahat Foundation and is involved in rehabilitation work for the disabled.

MUMBAI

Yash Chopra and Bakshi Nazir
Yash Chopra and Nazir Bakshi

Yash Chopra needs no introduction in Kashmir, primarily because of the films he shot in Kashmir. And secondly for bringing Shah Rukh Khan to the valley for the first time. Trade insiders said Khan’s visit actually helped the hospitality sector to cross a psychological breakthrough and got Kashmir tons of free publicity. That was perhaps why everybody from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to his bosom friend and host Bakhshi Nazir were pained at his death. Tragically, his Khan-starrer, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, was Chopra’s last film that is about to be released. Interestingly, municipal officials in Mumbai said the legendry filmmaker contracted Dengu in Kashmir, a place where the disease does not exist.

KUD
The world is changing. Now plots in virtual world need actual world interventions. Last week, a young damsel from Rajasthan was rescued after she fled on basis of a love affair she had nurtured in virtual life – on Facebook. She fell in love with a PCO owner of Jammu Vishal who invited her to visit Vaishno Devi. As she came to Jammu, Vishal and his two friends took her to Patnitop instead. She was molested at Patnitop. The suspicious group was noticed by police that arrested them finally in Kud, the highway town famous for its milky sweets. The affair that started in the virtual world ended in the real world.

DALGATEBarfi
It is the flip side of Bollywood! Indian Oscar entry film, Barfi has a Kashmir valley youth bitter and livid. Majid Yousuf Dar (34), a sports manager with the J&K Bank, claims the movie has used his picture without permission and portrayed him in a bad light by showing him as a bank robber. Dar is initiating a legal proceeding against the production house, UTV Motion Pictures. Dar, who lives in Dalgate, received calls informing him that he was a robber in reel life. The scene shows actress Ileana D’Cruz entering a police station looking for actor, Ranbir Kapoor, where police inspector informs her that he has been arrested because he is among bank robbers, pointing towards two pictures of Dar in the wanted list along with other mugshots of robbers.

DELHI
It is a subject matter of a probe! A Special Forces officer who led an operation in Handwara in which two militants were killed last month had his toe chewed off by rats at the Army Base Hospital. The 24-year-old lieutenant belonging to the 9 Para (Special Forces) suffered a bullet injury in the spine during the Handwara encounter on September 25, which left him paralysed from below the waist. He is admitted to an army hospital in Delhi where, last week, it was detected that a rat had bitten his toe. Now the soldier will have to undergo a rabies treatment, simultaneously.
