Since April 01, 2018, an IPS officer from Shopian is in news continuously. First when Zubair Turray, a local militant who was hiding at his house, was killed in an encounter nearby. On May 22, the same IPS officer’s younger brother Shamsul Haq Mengnoo, who was pursuing Bachelors of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) from a government college in Zakura, went missing from his house in Draggad. He has reportedly joined militant ranks.

Government forces were jubilant after they claimed to have gunned down five foreign infiltrators in Tangdar sector, and recovered modern weaponry from them. However, after the pictures of dead bodies were circulated on social media, two local families: one from Kulgam’s Parigam and second from Pulwama’s Lajoora, identified them as their sons, Mudassir Ahmad, 31, and Sheeraz Ahmad. It took authorities ten days to confirm their claims, and exhumed both the bodies.

Mudasir, who was a physical teacher at Government Middle School in Frisal Shivporah, Kulgam, was missing since July 2016. And Sheeraz was missing since September 2017.

Zulaikha, a pregnant woman allegedly killed by her husband

The small hamlet of Amadzoo in Islamabad woke up to the news of a brutal murder in the month of Ramazan. The victim, Zulaikha, was pregnant, when her husband Sadam Ahmad Shah murdered her brutally. Sadam and Zulaikha were married since last three years.

Waseem Hussain Butt, a retired Tehsildar from Kishtwar, who was currently working as a teacher, was booked by the police on charges of rape, extortion, and blackmail of a student. Butt got intimate with the school girl after promising to marry her. During investigation it came to fore that Butt had shot some intimate videos and clicked photos of the girl, which he then used to blackmail her to extort money. However, Butt, a father of two kids, circulated victim’s videos and photos among his friends and girls relatives.

Chirangda Singh

Bollywood actor Chitrangda Singh was in Kashmir recently on an eight-day family trip. Singh was seen fly fishing and trout fishing. The group led by Singh also trekked from Pahalgam towards Sheshnag Lake and took a short trek around Gulmarg. She admits that picturesque countries like Switzerland and Australia are no match to the natural beauty of Gulmarg and Pahalgam.
