Sama Shabir, the daughter of Kashmiri separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah

Sama Shabir, the 19 year old daughter of incarcerated separatist Shabir Ahmad Shah shot to fame last year when she topped the senior secondary school examinations. Recently she was summoned twice by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case of 2005, when she was just five year old.

Currently Sama is studying law in Manchester in the United Kingdom. This is the second summon issued against Sama.

Kashmiri-PhD-scholar-was-arrested-in-a-joint-operation-of-the-Jammu-and-Kashmir-and-Punjab-Police-from-the-central-University-in-Bathinda

A Kashmiri PhD scholar was arrested in a joint operation of the Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab Police from the central University in Bathinda on Tuesday for alleged militant links.

The accused, Hilal Ahmed, 28, was brought to Kashmir for further investigation. The arrest was made following a raid conducted in the varsity campus.

Police said that Ahmed was linked to militant activities and involved in terror funding in Jammu and Kashmir. Over the past one year, the police in both states have raided institutions in various parts of Punjab and arrested students with alleged terror links in Kashmir.

Shopian IPL lady

In a first of its kind, a Kashmiri female cricketer Jasiya Akhtar, got an unexpected call from the selectors of Women’s Indian Cricket Premier League and was asked to report on May 2 at Jaipur. Jasiya Akhtar, who hails from Shopian plays in domestic cricket arena for Punjab. She has twice attended India camp but was recently selected for India Reds. She was also nominated for State award by J&K Government this year.

The league will start on May 6 at Sawami Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. There will be three teams this year taking part in the women’s T20 which include Supernovas, Trailblazers and Velocity. The team has not been assigned to Jasiya yet but she has been asked to report directly at the venue.

On April 24, an ill-fated mini bus was on its way from Gandoh from Thathri in Doda district when it was hit by a massive landslide at Piyakul resulting in killing of five commuters including three women and injuries to nine others.

As per the reports the bus was crossing the muddy patch when it came under the debris of the landslide that rolled down from the hill. Accidents on this fate-full road have become a norm as successive governments have failed to plug the road.

JK-Bank-chairman-Pervaiz

On April 25, Housing and Urban Development Corporation, a Government of India enterprise felicitated the Chairman and CEO J&K Bank, Parvez Ahmed, in recognition of the outstanding contribution of the Bank through innovative initiatives in the housing sector under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (Urban) – CLSS.

The award was presented by Gopala Swami Parthasarathy a former diplomat, President IHC and the Chancellor Central University of Jammu in presence of Chairman & Managing Director HUDCO in a glittering function held in Delhi today on the eve of 49th foundation Day of HUDCO. The Bank achieved the recognition for its contribution under the Private Sector Bank category for the Financial Year 2018-19. The Chairman and Managing Director HUDCO expressed deep appreciation for the Bank’s role in promoting the Housing sector in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
