SRINAGAR

Kashmir continues to be the sensation in Bollywood. Atif Aslam, the celebrated Pakistani singer has come out with Kashmir connection again. This time, his voice is in sync with the scenic beauty of Kashmir shot for an upcoming Bollywood flick Laila Majnu produced by Imtiyaz Ali and Ekta Kapoor. His earlier number with some Kashmiri lyrics was instant hit O Meri Laila, with the voices of Atif Aslam and Jyotika Tangri, and captuting the Kashmir beauty has already become an internet sensation and has been widely shared on social sites. By the way, it has a Kashmir star in its cast as well. Guess who?

MATTAN

As the retired doctor in south Kashmir’s Mattan left his orchards to a family for protection, he allegedly molested and tried to rape a woman of the same family. Identified as Dr Terath Singh, the victim family was custodian of his orchards in Satrimaidaan-Kehribal village from last six months. The attempt to outrage modesty apart, the victim in a video alleged after the doctor tried to rape her, his son Jignu offered her money for not revealing the act to anyone. The police will reveal the details as they have registered the case under FIR No 57/18 U S 376, 511 RPC.

TANGHDAR

After hitting the parts of south Kashmir, the fretful cloudbursts turned their direction to north Kashmir and reached Shamsbari Mountain in Tanghdar Kupwara. Multiple cloudbursts triggered flash floods in several villages of the area. Running for their lives, the inhabitants left everything behind. The affected villages included Nachayian, Hajinad, Bagh Baila, Gumul, and Tanghdar. Besides the damage to properties, two men lost their lives and the bodies identified as Mangta Awan son of Mohammad Abdullah Awan of Gumul village and Sheer Singh son of Sardar Singh of RS Pora Jammu were found in the debris after the rains stopped.

SONWAR

As the rhythm and the beat of bhangra started in Sheri-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar, only the motion was recorded but the sound was missing. It was August 15, 2018, post-parade culture show that became a huge embarrassment for the administration. A technical fault which led to cancellation of other cultural performances left the officials managing the show red faced. The incumbent chief executive of the state presided over the function. Later, Kashmir Commissioner ordered action against the officials of the cultural academy for the fault. They were arrested and interrogated and, much later, sent home.

SOPORE

The Bollywood has its impact in Kashmir. The attire and style apart, the latest in of the magical world in Kashmir is “Munna Bhai MBBS”. Degree or no degree, the patients are being treated “comfortably” after waiting hours for the appointment. Faint idea of pharmacy and little more of the disease is enough to manage the ailments. The latest shock came from Budgam where a pharmacist was working as a surgeon with a gold medal. The Pattan too had its share of quacks. Last month a young boy, yet to pass class 12th had a long queue of patients waiting in a “successfully” run clinic. Administration has started to act, finally and it is said that at least 44 illegal and unauthorised clinics have been sealed so far. Next time beware who is your doctor, the waiting doesn’t matter!

MUMBAI

Kashmir is common to the taste of the film world. This time Bollywood veteran actor Jackie Shroff and fitness freak John Abraham are in the valley, currently shooting for the movie Romeo Akbar Walter aka RAW Gulmarg and Srinagar. The director of the film Robbie Grewal is in search of a local talent to work. This they are doing to retain the authenticity in RAW and get the right vibe by having local actors and also technicians. The costume designer for the film is also a Kashmiri who will be designing the looks which belong to the 70s era. The shooting schedule in Kashmir started on August 16.
