KATHUA

In an attempt to calm the streets in post-Burhan Wani’s Kashmir, state government went on a massive recruitment drive for J&K police. But, once the recruitment part was done, and the selected youth were sent for training, they realized that no-matter where they go, they will be treated like any other Kashmiri, both on or off the streets.

One such incident was recently reported from Police Training School (PTS) Kathua, where a batch of 1000 Kashmiri recruits are currently undergoing training.

A  Kashmiri trainee policeman was admitted in district hospital Kathua, after he was allegedly thrashed by an officer inside the classroom. Interestingly, the young wannabe policeman alleged that his supervisor accused him of being a stone-pelter and a militant!

After the incident came to light many more cadets came out with shocking revelations like they are taunted as post-Burhan recruits.

Will the administration wake up after the ‘death trap’ had caught one of their own?

The so-called Gaurakshaks (cow vigilantes) are flexing their muscles in Kashmir once again after staying low key for a while. This time the goons assaulted Lal Din, 70, of Gundha Keri, who was moving with his bovine in the area. So far police has arrested one person in this connection. Soon Din’s picture, nursing his injuries in a local hospital started making rounds on social media sites. This forced local administration to term the incident as dispute between two parties!

Getting threat calls for reporting or writing something is nothing new for media persons in conflict ridden Kashmir. But when the threat comes from a senior politician’s wife, things become a bit interesting, as well as scary. Senior PDP politician and Member of Parliament Muzaffar Baig, who represents north Kashmir, was caught on the wrong foot when his wife threatened a local English daily editor for writing an opinion piece against her husband.

The KEG and KCDS have condemned Mrs Baig’s threat to ‘skin and hang’ the editor! In a 4 minute call, Safeena Baig had reacted to an editorial published by the Kashmir Monitor. An FIR has also been lodged in the Kothi Bagh police station.

SUMBAL

Unidentified gunmen are back to haunt Kashmir. This time they struck in Hajin, where a headless body of Muzaffar Ahmad Parray, 24, with his hands tied behind the back, was found.

Within no time, with Muzaffar’s head still missing, the militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba blamed ‘Indian forces’ for the killing, while police blamed “unknown” suspects. Interestingly police gave Muzaffar clean shit for not being involved in any militancy-related activity.

Muzaffar, a butcher by profession, was home recovering after being ‘tortured’ in police custody for three months, claimed his family.

Out of his thirty family members, who live under one roof, 19 male members have FIRs against them, included Muzaffar, for stone-throwing.
