SECRETARIAT

Cop-thrashes-CopThere seems to be no end to independent MLA from Langate Er Rasheed’s woes, both inside and outside the state legislative assembly. A day after he was thrashed inside the house by BJP men, almost lynching him to death, he gheraoed the civil secretariat with his supporters. In the commotion, an over enthusiastic cop kicked the lawmaker, prompting his seniors to thrash the errant cop in full public view. It diffused the situation to some extent but not before Bilal Bahadur managed to click the rarity.

BANDIPORE

Altaf-gunned-downTop cops admit it was a big loss. Tech-savvy sub-inspector Altaf Ahmad, 37, missed the target this time and lost his life. He was tracking most wanted militant of LeT in valley Abu Qasim in north Kashmir’s Dachin village. Altaf, reports say, had a plan that militant vehicle would be intercepted by police Naka, it did not happen. The Tata Mobile used by militants overtook his white colour private ETIOS car, halted in front, and indiscriminate firing started. Altaf though fired few shots but was fatally injured. The hunter was hunted in what reports say was a ‘source trap’. Known as Altaf ‘laptop’, he headed anti-terror SIT of police. With at least 40 people reporting to him, Altaf was master in ‘using human intelligence with technical analysis.’ Known as ardent cricketer, CM Mufti Sayeed, his predecessor Omar Abdullah and all ranks of police officials attended the wreath laying ceremony. His villagers say, “We did not know that he was such a high profile officer”. With his death, insiders in police say ‘real time information of last nine years has been buried.’

PARTAP PARK

Dr-Haseeb-Drabu-with-PHE-daily-wagersFor nearly a week, the daily-wagers converted the Partap Park into Jantar Mantar. For most of the day, they would use the public address system (PAS) to dish out their message. Some of them were on hunger strike, seeking formal adjustments in the government service. Those on hunger strike had grown frail and weak. A few days later, an ambulance had to be stationed around. Almost everybody visited them. But they were waiting for the government. Finally, Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu visited them, assured them of a policy for within three months for adjustments in two-three years and the park turned calm.

ISLAMABAD

Khurshid-KasuriPakistan’s Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri has many revelations in his book: Neither a Hawk Nor a Dove. One of the revelations is that Manmohan Singh and General Pervez Musharraf had a one-on-one secret meeting in which they came near to resolving Kashmir issue. Add to this: the files of unsigned paperwork exchanged between the two sides were handed over to Narendra Modi by Singh on May 27, 2014. Authorized aides of Singh and Musharaf: Satinder Lambah, and Riaz Muhammad Khan, and Tariq Aziz had held 200 hours of discussions in 30 meetings at Dubai and Kathmandu on the draft agreement.
