Sajad-LoneMinister Sajad Gani Lone is the first recipient of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Award for Politics 2015. Part of Swarajya Awards, constituted by the RSS think-tank India Foundation, Lone was honoured at India Ideas Conclave-2015 that Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed also attended. Honoured for jumping from separatist to the unionist camp and participating in elections, the citation said that Lone embodies the values espoused by the late Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. Sangh founder Mukhrejee was arrested in J&K in 1953 for spearheading a campaign against special status to J&K. He died in custody. Lone, the son of slain Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Lone and son-in-law of JKLF co-founder Amanullah Khan, heads his faction of Peoples’ Conference.

Engineer-Muhammad-Tabish-ParrayCome March and Kashmir will have another record. Muhammad Tabish, a NIT graduate currently a Sustainable Energy Masters fellow in KHT Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, will be one of the 80 member team to study climatic change in Antarctica. The last Kashmiri who set foot on North Pole was M K Kaul in 1985. Environmentalist Robert Swan will lead the expedition. Tabish has trekked across Kashmir and studied the glacier melting.

Mohammad Aziz was a resident of Salwa hamlet of Mendhar and was lost in 1947 to the divide. After the start of cross-LoC bus, this Kotli resident along with his daughter visited his nephew Gul Mohammad in 2013, stayed for a month and returned. Then in March 2015, he came with his wife and daughter and stayed for 28 days. Last week, the septuagenarian with his wife Rashida and daughter Hafiza took the Nepal route and came to Salwa again. Existing laws sees it as illegal entry and all the three were arrested. In custody, he is facing music for his love to his place of origin.

LAL-SING-ASIYA-29Health Ministry is becoming news for very unhealthy reasons. First, it was the minister Lal Singh spent Rs 25 lakh for creating a spacious office in Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) building near the ICU. He had the option of occupying the office that his predecessor had opened in GMC Jammu but Singh wanted to stay close to ICU! Soon after came another news that the minister’s daughter ensured a mobile phone seller is detained by police. Reason: she wanted a pink apple phone which the seller was not in a position to sell. Then Kashmir took over with the shocking news that a BMO rank officer had shared video of a woman giving birth to a child on the whatsapp group that the ministry has started to stay in touch with each other. Singh is also its member.

KUPWARA

col_mahadikIn the ‘operation’ still underway for almost a week now, army lost Colonel Santosh Mahadik to a militant bullet. Son of a Maharashtra milkman, the 38 year old para commando was commanding 41-RR and was enjoying excellent relationship with people. This is the second colonel rank officer who died in Kashmir, this year. Earlier, 39-year old Colonel M N Rai, heading 42-RR was killed on January 28 in Tral.

justie-T-S-ThakurChenab valley must be excited as the son of soil Justice Tirath Singh Thakur is taking over as India’s 43 Chief Justice on December 3. Born in Doda on January 4, 1952, Justice Thakur was designated as a senior advocate in 1990. He has been part of bench of High Court in J&K, Karnataka, Delhi, and the Punjab and Haryana High Court before being transferred to the apex court. He is the son of D D Thakur a lawyer who joined politics and held key positions in state and the union government.

ReT Raj Kumar is the lone teacher taking care of 40 students (22 girls and 18 boys) enrolled in eight classes of 50-year old state run Middle School at Parthyal Samba district’s Vijaypur.

 

After terminating the services of 359 doctors since 2007, the government is planning 192 more for their continued unauthorized absence for a long time.
