Last week after finishing the Friday prayers when most of the people left Jamia Masjid, a group of masked boys rushed to the pulpit carrying black flags of Islamic State (IS) in their hands. One of them jumped on the pulpit with his shoes one and began shouting slogans in favour of IS. The incident, which was caught on camera, enraged everyone in Kashmir. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who leads Friday prayers in Jamia Masjid, called the incident an attempt to desecrate the sanctity of the historic mosque. A few days later Mirwaiz, along with his supporters, helped cleanse the mosque. Interestingly, Mirwaiz was seen cleaning the pulpit with Colin instead of traditional rose water.

SHIMLA

In a shocking incident that happened in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, a mob ransacked Kashmiri shops after severed head of a calf was allegedly found in the market. In a 3:21 minute video, which is widely circulated on social media networking sites, hundreds of the people are seen looting shops belonging to Kashmiri traders amid sloganeering in Rohru Tehsil in Shimla district. The estimated loss of the loot has been put at Rs 18 lakhs by the local police. Meanwhile the Chief Minister Himachal Pradesh Jai Ram Thakur was quoted saying the investigation was “going on.”

POONCH

A 10th class student was allegedly raped by a school teacher Satish Sharma in Poonch district of Jammu division. The incident happened at Government Middle School Mangnar, Poonch.

The local police received complaint from Childline Poonch. The victim has informed the helpline that she was repeatedly raped by her teacher. Following the complaint, the officer informed the police and registered a case against the accused.

PULWAMA

As the encounter ended in Hajan village of Pulwama district, ten-year-old Arif Ahmad Dar, a resident of Larow, was injured critically after he accidently fiddled with an explosive material while grazing sheep in a nearby orchard in Gadoora area. Arif later died of his injuries in a hospital.

JAWAHAR NAGAR

In second such incident four AK 47 rifles have gone missing from senior Congress leader and former minister Muzaffar Parray’s high security official residence at Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar. The lawmaker was out of state since last one month and had taken both his vehicles along. According to police sources, Parray was supposed to inform the concerned police station that he is not taking his security along which he did not. All his allotted four policemen, three from security wing and another from District Police Sopore, have been dismissed from their services while as the SSP Security Kashmir, Maqsood Ul Zamaan, was also attached with Security Headquarters with immediate effect.

NOWHATTA

In a bizarre incident, Manzoor Hussain Banyari, resident of Shamsipora, Shopian, was arrested and later bailed out by Nowhatta police, where he was allegedly trying to ‘bury’ his infant alive. Banyari reportedly told police that his baby has congenital deformities and being poor he couldn’t bear the expenses of his treatment. Meanwhile the government under Child Welfare Committee, Srinagar, has taken note of the incident and said that the government will take care of the child, who is presently under treatment at GB Pant hospital.

AWANTIPORA

Manjeet Singh

In a beautiful display of religious bonhomie a Sikh boy named Manjeet Singh, 20, from Dewar, Tral, used his turban to plug an injured Muslim woman’s wounds, after a truck hit her near Awantipora. Mangeet is survived by his handicapped mother, sister, and an elder brother. In January 2018, Mangeet’s father died, and he was recruited in his place as a daily-wager by SKAUST (Srinagar). Manjeet is now the sole bread-earner for his family.
