Siachen Snow StormTen more soldiers were buried alive in Siachen, the world’s highest battlefield that many suggested should be converted into a peace park. Fighting each other since 1984, armies of nuclear India and Pakistan have faced nature as their biggest predator over 19600 ft glacier. Year 2015 witnessed 120 Pakistani soldiers getting buried. India has lost 883 men including 33 officers to the glacier’s ecology and not enemy fire.

JAMMU

‘Secret’ marriages are dangerous; at least it proved so for a DySP Aiyaz Malik, posted in Srinagar’s Central Jail. His services were placed under suspension following a complaint by his own family. The department will take 45 days to investigate the case. If proved that he has married a second woman without divorcing his first wife, a legal action would be taken against him. Muslim Personal Law, however, rules the family courts in J&K.

SRINAGAR

mohammad-qasim--Last Friday, separatist Muhammad Qasim Faktoo completed 23 years in prison. Arrested on February 5, 1993, he was convicted in Harday Nath Wanchoo murder, completed his PhD in jail and has authored 19 books in English and Urdu. A TADA court had acquitted him in July 2001 but the state government challenged his acquittal in the apex court.

Daesh---BABAs Daesh pronounced its Kashmir statement, an alleged sympathizer of the group was deported from Dubai only to be declared innocent in Delhi. Then, three other Kashmiri youth were detained when they clicked ‘selfies’ near an air base station in Bihar. This comes in wake of Union home ministry advisory to shoot-at-sight if anyone is found scaling a wall near any air base across India. But is Kashmir ripe to receive Daesh? Absolutely not.

Dr-FarooqDr Farooq Abdullah is back in action. He was seen in Bajirao Gupkar avatar recently! At a NDTV award function, Disco Farooq shook a leg live with the Ranveer Singh, the Bollywood actor on Bajirao Mastani number.  The brief recording suggested the near-septuagenarian is still full of fun and energy. But that was not the only video that went viral on social media. He sung many numbers and one video in which she suggested a young lady to marry actually has gone to the police!

KISHTWAR

Abdul-Hay-KhateebBhaderwah’s Abdul Hay Khateeb, a separatist and social activist, died at 89. A known face of Chenab Valley, he was arrested during Plebiscite Front. Post-1975 accord, he parted ways from NC and joined MUF in 1987 and was again arrested. He later led the local Awqaf. His son Hussain joined Hizb ul Mujahideen in 1989 which strained his relationship with Geelani. His regret was that neither he could see his son nor could the state permit him to perform Haj.

BJP lawmakers contributed Rs 25 lakh for improving the memorial of seven persons who died in 1953 agitation against the special status of J&K.

 

Post floods, against the target of excavating 857700 cubic meters of silt only 558820 cubic meters have been removed.
