KUPWARA

Man-dies-in-Kupwara-police-custodyAt the outset, they claimed they had brought the “murder accused” for interrogation and taken him to hospital for his chest pain where he gave them a slip. Then, they “recovered” his corpse – and this theory Kupwara police maintained for 24 hours about Nazir Ahmad Moughal of Awoora. Then people came out and protested. The scene shifted. Police arrested its own three men for the murder of the murder accused. Investigation is on and who know who did what? Could not police have prevented theatrics in this case that devoured a human life?

CHUSHUL

India-china-meetingLast week, reports from Leh were unlike earlier ones suggesting Chinese getting in and claiming Ladakh. Instead, there was a Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) in a Chinese hut at Moldo Garrison in Chushul sector. There were red carpets, top guns in creased suits, handshakes and renewed commitments that they will uphold treaties and agreements their governments will sign or have signed. Indian army’s delegation was led by Brigadier VS Rawat as Beijing had sent Senior Colonel Fanjun. They made speeches, detailed interactions and had bada khana. It ended with a cultural programme showcasing Chinese culture. This, defence sources say, was the second such meeting. The first was on January 26.

SRIGUFWARA

Sofi-Yousuf-BJPControversial cop who gave up policing to join BJP finally made history by becoming the first Kashmiri Muslim to represent rightwing party in the House of Elders. Whether or not he was an Ikhwani, as some people allege, Sofi Yousuf has remained one of the old faces of the BJP in Kashmir. He resigned from police in 1999, contested assembly elections in 2002, 2008 and 2014, and Lok Sabha polls in 2004, 2009 and 2014 – never won. He claims he was attacked twice by militants as friends and relatives stayed at a distance from him. Now it is his day. He is finally a lawmaker. He gives credit to his party and to PDP too.

KREERI

They finally arrested him. Resident of Fresthar, Hilal Lone was leading prayers in Bahrampora Tilgam mosque and is now in Kreeri police station. He was arrested after he became a “father” by exploiting a girl who delivered a baby. Family complained to the police and Lone was arrested. Did not parents know or was the society unaware of it? Nine months is not just a holiday, it is an era of three quarters. By the way, was Lone a disciple of Gulzar ‘Pir’? These are questions, investigator must find answers to.

KHANYAR

Missing-and-Later-found-Dead-BabyWithin hours they found two-year old Aksa Jan missing at their Nowpora residence, they hired cars and autos and reached city’s Fleet Street: to protest. They alleged their baby was lifted and police did not act. As they believe, protests in Partap Park are considered directly proportional to the police action. Post-protests, police acted and started from their home. Baby was recovered from the marsh, dead. This is second such case in the area.

NDMA has released Rs 115.81crore to 16478 individuals who lost their houses in floods – Rs 73.55 crore for 7355 pucca and Rs 42.26 crore for 8453 kutcha houses.
