This has been dubbed as the ‘fairytale moment in cricket’. Parvez Rasool-led J&K team beat 40-time Ranji Trophy champion Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium. Stunning victory came after a successful chase of 237 runs for the loss of six wickets on the final day of the match. Shubham Khajuria was Man of the Match for the 4-wicket win for scoring 107 and 78 in two innings. Skipper Rasool gave 32 runs for 38 balls. J&K’s outright win over Mumbai is J&K’s 21st in the 80-year old Ranji Trophy. J&K plays the tournament since 1959-60.
NOWSHEHRA
Unprecedented till a few years back, acid attacks are triggering the panic occasionally. The latest incident took place in Nowshehra Srinagar when two attackers in a maruti car threw acid on a 21 year old law student. She has lost her one eye and her face is disfigured. Police says they have clues but an arrest is yet to take place. The incident has triggered a chain of reaction adding to the pressures on police to arrest the attackers. The attack took place despite a boy being sent to 10 years imprisonment in a similar attack in uptown.

Former Miss India World Natasha Suri had flown to Srinagar’s flood-decimated Rajbagh to inaugurate a multi-brand apparel store. Here, she was impressed not only by the beauty of Kashmir but also by the traditional apparels like Pheran. She has heard stories of bravery of the local youth when floods inundated the city. Incidentally, her host Adnan Shah had also worked in the deluge and helped people.

It is not BJP or Congress alone. Even NC has a star-support. Its Vijapur candidate Surjeet Singh Slathia had actors Mukesh Khanna and Mukesh Rishi campaigned for him. The Mukesh duo accompanied Slathia in a roadshow last week. Khanna is the TV serial Shaktimaan actor.
QAZIGUND
Abdul Salam Khanday of Damjan in Qazigund lost two sons to renal failures. Now, as his third son, 22 years old Zakir is suffering from the same disease, he has no option but to take the final decision of giving him his own kidney. Already, he has sold three kanals of land on treatment of his two sons Mudasir (8) and Asif (13). Now he is contributing his own kidney and selling the only one kanal left but it still requires more money. Help must go to his bank account.
HARYANA
After nine Kashmiri students studying in Global Research Institute of Management and Technology (GRIMT) in Nachrun village of Yamuna Nagar were beaten up with sticks and iron rods, 50 others fled and took refuge in a police station. The troubles owe their origins to a Jammu student jumping the line at lunch and a Kashmiri protesting! Hell broke lose after 10 minutes and within seconds 10 of the students were bleeding. While it is not known if police has taken any action, it has suggested the college to send Kashmiris home! College officials say it was minor and it was Jammu V/S Kashmir. Long live J&K.
KUNAN
Police has informed the High Court that Army is not cooperating in 1991 Kunan rape investigation. Though the police had sought help of Defence Ministry it has not yielded any results to manage presence of 125 soldiers of 4 Rajputana Rifles. Army has not given the original NoC of May 1, 1991 that bears the signatures of witnesses. The state government has also informed the court that it has filed an SLP against an order directing paying compensation to the victims. Meanwhile, during polling, the victims of the rape refused to be part of the exercise. As their males were voting, the women were carrying black flags around the police station.
Srinagar city has population of 1269751 souls (2011) but has only 625801 voters (2014) which is 49.28 percent.
South Kashmir Islamabad has a population of 1070144 souls (2011) but its voter population is only 495052 (2014) which is 46.26 percent.
