When Nisha Kumari, a Class 10 student from Kud Basti village in Udhampur district, sat on a hunger strike outside her house, demanding construct of an Individual Household Latrine (IHHL), she had no idea it will force authorities to construct over 550 toilets in the region. Her extraordinary efforts earned her the title of ‘child icon’ of the Swachh Bharat Mission. Following Kumari’s footsteps, now 35 students from a local school have staged protests demanding construction of toilets in their households.

As has been in vogue for sometime youngsters announce their joining of militant ranks on social media by posting their pics with a gun. But what if the person in question has not joined militancy, or much worse has no idea that his picture is circulated on the social media. In such a case, Aqib Farooq Mir, was shocked to see his picture doing rounds on social media claiming him a newly-recruited militant. It was the local police who came to his rescue and issuing a statement proving the pictures fake.

The story of Al Faran, a miliatnat group believed to be behind the kidnapping of five foreign tourists in 1995, will be adopted for a drama series by Bollywood actress Lara Dutta’s production house Bheegi Basanti Entertainment. Dutta has reportedly finished reading Adrian Levy and Cathy Scott-Clark’s 2012 book ‘The Meadow’, which revolves around the kidnapping.
KUPWARA
Finally Ritu Khandelwal, an 18-year-old girl from Bamer in Ahmedabad, whose family had claimed that she was kidnapped, was traced in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. Interestingly, after JKP met the girl, it came to fore that Ritu had converted to Islam before marrying a local boy. However, girl’s father Ganesh Kumar still maintains that his girl neither converted nor married the Kashmiri man.

The six minute long tribute to television series Game of Thrones (GoT) by local artists titled ‘The Cure: A Kashmiri Instrumental Tribute to Game of Thrones’, is already making everyone drool in Kashmir. The video has been shot in Gulmarg and the background score features the instrumental version of the theme song. The video has been uploaded by Jammu and Kashmir Tourism’s Facebook page and the YouTube handle as well.
