SRINAGAR: The report of the Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted to examine grievances over the existing reservation rules is still under consideration of the Competent Authority, with the Government yet to decide whether its recommendations will be placed before the Legislative Assembly.
The status was disclosed in a reply to a starred question by Kulgam MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami regarding the committee’s report and the response of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
The Cabinet Sub-Committee was constituted on December 10, 2024, to examine grievances relating to the existing reservation rules. According to the Social Welfare Department, the panel has submitted its report and recommendations.
The Government said that, after approval by the Council of Ministers, the matter was placed before the Competent Authority, which subsequently raised certain observations. These observations have been examined and the Government has furnished its response.
The matter is now pending consideration before the Competent Authority.
The Government also rejected any suggestion that the committee had delayed submitting its report, saying the panel submitted its recommendations to the Cabinet within the prescribed timeframe.
It said the observations subsequently received from the Competent Authority had also been examined and responded to by the Government.
A decision on the matter will be taken after consideration of the relevant aspects and in the larger public interest, the reply stated.
On whether the recommendations would be tabled in the Legislative Assembly, the Government said no decision had yet been taken. The recommendations are awaiting approval of the Competent Authority, after which a decision on placing them before the House will be taken.
