Central Kashmir: Police Register FIR Over Social Media Posts Allegedly Promoting Religious Enmity

   

SRINAGAR: Police in central Kashmir’s Budgam district have registered a case against unidentified individuals for allegedly circulating social media content intended to hurt religious sentiments and incite enmity between communities ahead of Muharram.

In a statement, police said FIR No. 163/2026 has been registered at Police Station Budgam under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The action was initiated following credible inputs regarding the circulation of provocative videos and misleading content aimed at spreading hatred and division.

Police said an investigation has been launched to identify those responsible, and assured that strict legal action will follow as per law.

Authorities have also urged the public to act responsibly on social media and refrain from creating, sharing, or forwarding content that could inflame tensions, hurt religious sentiments, or disturb public order. They warned that anyone found involved in such activities will be dealt with firmly under the law.

Budgam Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace, communal harmony, and public order across the district.
