The decision, approved by the President, was communicated through an Office Memorandum issued by the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions on November 4.

The enhanced rate will apply to basic pension and family pension, including additional pension and additional family pension.

The revised rates will cover all Central Government pensioners and family pensioners, including retired and family beneficiaries of the Armed Forces, civilian pensioners paid from Defence Service Estimates, Railway pensioners and All India Service pensioners. Those receiving provisional pension will also be covered.

The benefit will also extend to pensioners and family pensioners covered under the department’s earlier memoranda dated June 23, 2017 and September 11, 2017.

The memorandum directs Accountant General offices and authorised pension-disbursing banks to arrange payments in accordance with the revised rates without waiting for further instructions.

It further states that any Dearness Relief payment involving a fraction of a rupee will be rounded up to the next higher rupee.
