SRINAGAR: Water levels in the Chenab River rose in Reasi district on Tuesday after four gates of the Salal Dam were opened to manage increased inflow into the reservoir.
The gates were opened following a rise in water entering the reservoir amid continued rainfall in the upper catchment areas.
The additional water was released downstream in a controlled manner to regulate the reservoir level and keep it within safe operating limits.
The development comes as rainfall continues in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting authorities to monitor water levels in the Chenab and other rivers and water bodies across the region.
Authorities are maintaining a close watch on the situation as inflows into the reservoir remain elevated.
