The coldest period consisting on forty days commonly known as ‘Chillai Kallan’ in Kashmiri calendar ended on Thursday, however, valley is witnessing severe cold since last few days.

Kashmir received two major snow falls during ‘Chillai Kallan’ this year. The first snowfall came on December 31, 2013, the last day of the last year.

‘Chillai-Kalan’, begins every year on December 22 and ends on January 31. The second major snowfall came on January 22, 2014.

MeT department has predicted another snowfall from February 2 to 5.

Meanwhile, there was no respite from the cold wave in Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region as the minimum temperature dropped in most places.
