Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ was celebrated on Tuesday across Jammu and Kashmir with fervor and enthusiasm.
All the churches in the state were illuminated and decorated for the occasion. The Christians attired in colourful dresses, exchanged greetings with each other, distributed sweets and offered special mid night prayers.
Big congregation, including some of convertees, was witnessed in the Holy Family Catholic Church situated in the Lal chowk of Srinagar. Every year Christmas is celebrated with fervor in Valley.
Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah greeted the people on the occasion.
Vohra expressed the hope that this occasion would be a harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity for the state. Abdullah also extended greetings to the people wishing them well being and prosperity.
