SRINAGAR: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Wednesday said it apprehended a man in Srinagar for using a forged document in the name of the agency to defraud members of the public and collect money through deceitful means.
“CIK identified the accused, Bilal Ahmad Rather, son of Abdul Samad Rather, originally from Allochi Bagh and presently residing in Zakura, Srinagar. He was apprehended following credible information. Bilal collected a large amount of money from individuals through fraudulent and dishonest methods. When victims repeatedly approached him to return the money, he refused. To mislead them, he forged a letter purportedly issued by the office of SSP CIK,” the statement said.
During questioning, a forged enquiry notice was recovered from Bilal’s mobile phone. He confessed to forging the document with the intent to mislead and defraud the public.
“Following the recovery, Bilal was handed over to police in Zakura for legal action. An FIR No. 39/2025 under Sections 318(4), 336(3), 336(4), and 340(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered, and further investigation is underway,” it reads.
