Police Recover Stolen Livestock, Arrest Five in South Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police in South Kashmir’s Awantipora have solved a theft case by arresting five accused persons and recovering stolen livestock from their possession.

“On June 23, 2025, Police Station Awantipora received a written complaint from Mohd Zubair regarding the theft of cattle from Barsoo village. Following the complaint, a case was registered under FIR No. 145/2025 and an investigation was launched. A police team, led by SHO Awantipora DySP (P) Aatif Zahoor under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora Raja Majid Batt-JKPS, was constituted to investigate the case. Acting promptly, the team developed leads and identified a suspect, Azam Bakerwal, son of Maqmood Bakerwal, resident of Dat Gund Gulshapora Tral,” a police spokesperson said in a statement.

During questioning, the accused confessed to his involvement and revealed the names of four other individuals. “The remaining accused were identified as Nisar Ahmad Mir, son of Sanaullah Mir of YK Pora Qazigund; Rashid Ahmad Mir, son of Mohd Yaqoub Mir of Kuchipora Qazigund; Liyaqat Ali, son of Makhan Ahmad Bomla of Kudigam Qazigund; and Mohd Sabir Khari, son of Mulla Bakerwal of Gulshanpora Tral. All were subsequently arrested,” police said.

Based on their disclosure, police recovered 34 sheep and goats. The recovered livestock was handed over to the rightful owners after legal procedures.
