Srinagar

A civilian was killed on Thursday early morning after government forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Noorbah area of Srinagar.

Earlier, the reports said there was an encounter between the militants and government forces; however, it was not immediately known in what circumstances he has died. The slain civilian has been identified as Mohammad Saleem Malik, 24, son of Mohammad Yaqoob Malik, a resident of Bhagwan pora in Noorbagh.

Local sources said that there was a Cordon and Search Operation in the area, later the firing started in which Malik suffered bullet injuries and died.

Meanwhile, restrictions were imposed in old Srinagar city parts to prevent any agitation against the civilian killing. Internet services were also snapped in three districts of the Kashmir following the gunfights between the forces and militants.
