Police had to use tear smoke shells and cane charges to disperse hundreds of protesters in Hajin after Friday prayers. The locals especially youth were protesting against what they called “unprovoked pepper shelling” last evening.

Sources said that after the Friday prayers protesters took to streets and shouted anti-India slogans and pelted stones on the forces deployed in good numbers who responded with tear gas shells.

Police sources also confirmed clashes in the Hajin town of Bandipora district however there were no reports of injuries to anyone.

Local sources said that police last evening fired Pepper gas shells when markets were about to close resulting in chaos and tension. They added that today’s protest was against that “unprovoked” police action.
