Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Friday mourned the demise of veteran politician and former Minister, Ghulam Rasool Kar, who passed away this morning.

CM was speaking during a resolution moved in the Legislative Council by Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar to condole the death of Ghulam Rasool Kar, an official statement said.

The statement said, “referring to his close association with the deceased leader, Mufti Sayeed recalled his immense contribution as a Member of the Constituent Assembly from 1951 to 1957. “He was full of political wisdom and in his death we have lost a great visionary leader who tirelessly struggled for raising the issues of the weaker sections of the society.”

Mufti conveyed his heart-felt sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.

Born in 1921 at Sopore, late Ghulam Rasool Kar was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly in 1957. He served as Minister in State Governments from 1965 to 1971 and later from 1972 to 1975. He was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 1984 where he served his term till 1987 and from 1987-90 he again served as the Minister in the State Government and later was elected as Member Parliament in 1996, the statement informed.
