Senior Congress leader and Minister for Medical Education Taj Mohiuddin Thursday rubbished rumours about his plans to join National Conference after resigning from membership of his party.Taj Mohi Din

Reacting to unconfirmed reports that he was contemplating to leave congress and join NC in view of his ‘rift’ with certain leaders, the veteran state congress leader said, “I will never leave Congress party as I have put every possible effort is establishing and strengthening the party in the state. Congress belongs to me and I belong to Congress, so there is no question of resigning”, Taj Mohiuddin told KNS on Thursday.

However, the minister said that indiscipline and internal rift among its members could harm the party in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state. “There are some new comers into the party who are harming its image as they have no idea how the party has been built nor are they bothered about it future”, Taj added.

When asked about his open war of words with PHE Minister Sham Lal Sharma, the Medical Education Minister said, “I have only reacted to baseless allegations against me levelled by certain people. It is my right to defend myself”.

“If someone commits an offence, how can I be punished? I only reacted to allegations for which I have been compelled”, he said when asked whether the Congress High Command in Delhi was contemplating to take disciplinary action against certain leaders.

Without naming them, he accused some leaders of party of trying to create Jammu Vs Kashmir like situation on regional and religious grounds. “Some people are trying to create a wedge between people of state. Congress is a secular party and no one will be allowed to harm the atmosphere and tradition of brotherhodd and harmony”, he added.

Taj Mohiuddin said he will be visiting New Delhi on April 26 to meet the Congress President Sonia Gandhi and apprise her about certain important party issues. However, he replied in negative when asked whether he has been summoned by the high command.”I am a congress leader and can go there anytime”, he said.

He said he has talked to the state Congress Chief, Saifuddin Soz on certain issues related to discord in the party. “He is also worried about such issues”, he added.
