SRINAGAR: A police man has deserted the police force and taken away four service rifles with him. He was on guard duty in an FCI facility in Budgam.

Reports identified the cop as Syed Naveed Mushtaq (182/BD) son of Mushtaq Ahjad, a resident of Nazninpora Shopian.

Appointed in the police force in 2012, Mushtaq was deployed on guard duty outside FCI facility at village Chandpora in Budgam. Reports said he has taken four SLRs including that of his own and three other cops. Police have registered a case and investigations have started.

Meanwhile, reports said a cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from frontier Kupwara district during a search operation. The army in Freshitring Nard in Keran  recovered two AK rifles, two UBGLs, two pistols, twenty pistol magazines, 20 AK magazines, 600 AK rounds, 27 pistol rounds, one tracer, one knife, wire and a binocular have been recovered, a police official said.
