In absence of the Station House Officer, a police Head Constable allegedly detained a youth illegally for three consecutive days and tortured him physically and mentally. The said police constable has been attached while according to the victim Head Constable did it all to grab LCD TV from him.

Sources said that with the transfer of the SHO police station Bomai Sopore, HC Muhammad Sadiq was given charge of the police station. During this time the said Constable allegedly misused his position and arrested a 26 years old youth Farhad Fayaz Bhat and interrogated him for three days on the pretext he had stolen an LCD TV.

“I had not stolen it but produced documents about the product, yet the Head Constable beat me blue and black and I repeatedly lost my conscience in police lock up,” Farhad said adding that for the three consecutive days and nights the said constable tortured him.

He alleged that said cop before his arrest had directed him to give his LCD to him.

Farhad Bhat is presently admitted in Sub District Hospital for treatment under MRD number268.

His father Fayaz Ahmed Bhat said that his son was released only after the intervention of SDPO Sopore. “Every part of the body of my son is bruised and he was tortured in absence of the SHO. The new SHO after seeing the condition of my son in the lock up took the head constable to task and reprimanded him,” he said.

Station House Officer Bomai, Muhammad Shafi said that Farhad was called to police station in connection with burglary a case. “He was released after we found that he was innocent,” he said adding that no FIR has been lodged against the youth.

Deputy Inspector General North Kashmir, Ghulam Hasan Bhat said that he would initiate action against the erring cop and will ensure the victim gets justice.

 Sources said that the erring cop has been attached on the instructions of the top police officials. (CNS)
