Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir reported its ninth death due to COVID-19 when a 32-year-old man breathed his last at a hospital in Srinagar on Wednesday late evening.

Dr Saleem Khan, head of social and preventive medicine (SPM) and nodal officer COVID-19 at GMC Srinagar, said a 32-year-old man from Alamgari Bazar area in Srinagar city was tested positive hours after his death at Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital Srinagar on Wednesday night.

Dr Khan said the deceased was attending his father who is admitted in Super Speciality Hospital Shireen Bagh Srinagar. Four attendants have tested positive so far in hospital, he said. However, he added, none of the patients who were attended by these four have tested positive. 

He contracted the infection from a patient some days back and thereafter he was put in an isolation ward. The deceased had no other illness, Dr Khan said. 

This is the ninth death due to coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir and third from Srinagar. As of now, J&K has reported 775 cases, out of which 445 are active positive and 322 have recovered.
