According to an order issued by the District Magistrate Baramulla, the step was taken following a report from the Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla regarding a long-standing dispute between two groups within the Shia community over the organisation of religious activities and control of Imam Bargah and Masjid Mirchimar in Mirgund.

The order states that the restrictions will remain in force from 8:00 pm on March 10 until 9:30 pm on March 11, 2026, coinciding with the 21st of Ramzan, as a precautionary measure to maintain public order and prevent any untoward incidents.

Under the restrictions, assembly of four or more people, processions, carrying firearms or other weapons, and the use of loudspeakers without prior permission from the District Magistrate have been prohibited in the affected areas.

However, the order exempts armed forces personnel, police officials, magistrates and other authorised public servants while performing their official duties.
