DAKSHATA an initiative of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW, GoI) was today launched under National Health Mission (NHM), J&K in collaboration with JHPIEGO (Johns Hopkins University Affiliate) at Regional Institute of Health & Family Welfare (RIHFW), Kashmir.
According to the statement, the five-day training programme is with an objective to make DAKSHATA ToTs (Training of Trainers) for imparting training to labour room medical staff at the district level.
The aim of the training is to improve the quality of maternal and newborn care during the intro and immediate post-partum period by enhancing the competencies & skills of staff working in labour rooms and developing a system of post-training follow up and mentoring; enhancing availability of essential commodities supplies & equipments in labour rooms; and strengthening the capacity of the facilities and the system to measure the quality of care on a regular basis
The training was inaugurated by Director Health Services, Kashmir Dr Saleem ur Rehmanman who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The Director in his inaugural speech emphasised on the participants to take the training seriously & train all the staff of the identified delivery points in order to improve the quality of healthcare in labour rooms for further decreasing the Infant Mortality Rate& Maternal Mortality Ratio of the state.
In the first phase four participants i.e. gynaecologists,medical officers,RMNCH+A consultant and staff nurse of District Kupwara,Baramulla,Anantnag,Pulwama and Ramban will be made District Level ToTs(Training of Trainers) who will further train the labour room staff at delivery points of their respective health institutes until all the delivery points are saturated with trained staff followed by continuous onsite mentoring & supportive supervision.
The resource persons for the training from JHPEIGO were Dr ReshmiAsif(Director Clinical Services & Training, Maternal & New Born Health, JHPIEGO) & Dr Apoorva Jain(Programme Officer, JHPIEGO, New Delhi) while as the training was coordinated by Dr Mushtaq Dar, State Programme Manager, Divisional Nodal Officer NHM Kashmir.
