The joint resistance leadership Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik on Saturday said that the scheduled ‘Lal Chowk March’ has been postponed.

“In response to the request of Sikh community,” a statement issued by the joint resistance leadership said, “Lal Chowk Chalo program on Monday, the 14th of November 2016, has been postponed.”

“We believe in the golden ethos of religious freedom and tranquillity,” the leaders said. “Age old strong social and communal fabric stands testimony to our rich and glorious past.”

Giving details, the statement quoted the pro-freedom leaders as having said, “on 14 November 2016, only Lal Chowk Chalo program has been postponed, rest of the day’s activities remain unchanged.”

While congratulating Sikh community, they said, “like Sikhs, Pandits, Buddhists, Christians and all other sects are inseparable entity of our society and we respect and honour everybody’s sentiments.”

“We don’t believe in hypocrisy and dualism like the puppets of Indian rulers, who lockdown the Masjids here but participate in the religious activities of others, proving the intimacy and familiarity to their coalition partners,” the joint resistance leadership asserted.

They strongly criticized the Jamia Masjid lockdown and preventing people to offer Friday prayers and said, “India has curtailed and curbed not only our political, social and individual freedom but out religious liberties are also denied and this auspicious action is done by none other than the Muslims stooges of the forced oppressor.”

“Beating the drum of ‘democratically elected government’,” the statement said, “Indian rulers carry out every undemocratic move and subject the whole population to the worst kind of human rights violations, through these ‘elected henchmen’ for the last 70 years.”

“We upheld our traditional, religious and cultural harmony in the darkest days of the partition when every nook and corner of the sub-continent was up no flames and human blood and flesh was dissipated everywhere. But ours was the only place where there was calm, appreciated and endorsed by the Indian father of nation as well. Although our brothers and sisters were butchered in lacks in our close vicinity and we had every reason to take revenge, but our faith and religion protected this ethos to be torn or tarnish,” Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik said in the statement appealing people to follow the programs and “courageously defeat the nefarious designs of those who want to sabotage it for their own interests”.
