One youth was shot dead and a Scorpio was burnt down by angry protestors in South Kashmir’s Lethpora area on Tuesday evening.

Police sources said that an official from civilian administration was on way to Jammu from Srinagar when his van, Scorpio, “was stopped by protestors at Lethpora”.

“The officer’s PSO came down from the car and opened fire killing one person on spot,” sources said.

The slain youth was identified as Farooq Ahmad Kuchay, s/o Ghulam Nabi Kuchay.

A local who is present on the spot said that few others were injured by the bullets fired by the cop. “The CRPF personnel came down from their camp near Rice Mill and the clashes ensued,” he said.

The local said that the CRPF personnel blocked the road on way to Pampore and the injured were shifted to Kakpora. “The dead body is on road,” he said, “and protests are going on.”

Meanwhile, three persons were injured in Kupwara clashes earlier in the day and one person is said to be “very critical”.
