A few days ago, Police have picked up a youth from Kondbal village near Manasbal Lake in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

The family of the youth claim that police are not revealing his whereabouts. They have not been allowed to meet the arrested youth.

On Thursday, residents of the village including women attempted to stage a protest demonstration outside police station in Kheer Bawani village; however, “they had to face teargas shells and pellets from forces causing injury to many”, local said.

The sister of the arrested youth was hit with a shell which left her injured.

In the evening that day, the locals alleged that forces went berserk and damaged the houses in the area.

When Kashmir Life contacted Police station Safapora, a police officer confirmed one arrest.

He said, “last Saturday we arrested a youth named Mohammad Imran on the charges of instigating the youth.”

He added that due to “lack of lockup” at the police station, “the youth was lodged at the Kheer Bhawani police station”.

“On Friday, after the congregational prayers, residents of Kurhama village in the district, held a pro-freedom rally,” a local said. “Hundreds of protestors marched on the roads of the village raising pro-freedom and anti–India slogans.”

The locals said that such rallies were also organised in nearby Barsoo and Kondbal villages.

The three rallies converged and the march continued.

“At one sensitive spot in Kondbal, they (the protestors) were intercepted by forces. There were clashes causing injuries to over a dozen civilians,” a local said.

The protestors of Kurhama after returning back from Kondbal offered Asr prayers in congregation on Srinagar-Leh highway.
