Jama’at-e-Islami (JeI) J&K on Thursday said that the arrest spree is going on throughout the valley and hundreds of “innocent” youth have been detained in police stations and interrogation centers.

Condemning “this unjustified” arrest spree, Jama’at termed it “undemocratic and demanded early release of all detainees”.

In a statement issued this afternoon, JeI while commenting upon the statement of GoI, said, “the aggressive statement of Home Minister of Indian Rajnath Singh that Kashmir is an integral part of India, is too far from being the truth and the fact is that the entire Jammu and Kashmir as it existed at the time of partition, is disputed and in 1947, India after forcibly occupying a portion of this state, got a number of resolution passed in the security council wherein,” Jama’at said in a statement issued this afternoon.

“It has been promised to the people of the state that soon after the return of normalcy, they will be given a right to decide their political future freely but with the passage of time, the Indian rulers retracted from these pledges and started to claim Jammu and Kashmir as its integral part which tantamount to utter humiliation of the basic principles of humanity and democracy. Now India is bent upon to undo the identity of Kashmiris by dint of unjustified use of power,” the statement said.

Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir stressed upon the “Indian rulers to exhibit realism and take firm and effective steps to resolve long pending issue of Kashmir as per the aspirations of the people and stop issuing provocative statements”.

“The permanent solution to it lies either in following the UN resolutions or in tripartite talks therein involving Kashmiris as the basic party. To restrict the people from raising their just voice by use of unbridled force is quite against the wisdom,” the statement added.

Condemning the arrest spree in Valley, the statement said that Jama’at spokesperson Advocate Zahid Ali was arrested on Wednesday near Nowgam crossing while going to Pulwama and detained in police station Nowgam.

“Some activists of Jama’at from Sopore Shiekh Muhammad Yousuf, Aziz Ahmad Bhat and Abdul Majid Fazli have also been detained on the directions of SP Sopore in the local police station,” the statement added. “The arrest spree is going on throughout the valley and hundreds of innocent youth have been detained in police stations and interrogation centers. Jama’at vehemently condemns this unjustified arrest spree and termed it undemocratic and demands early release of all detunes.”
