SRINAGAR

An aged couple was injured Saturday night when a police party raided their Kamla residence in Tral periphery to arrest their son.

The man was referred to Srinagar as the woman was discharged from the local hospital.

The injured couple was identified as Abdul Qayoom Bhat and his wife Nazira. Their son Noor Mohammad was arrested as the cops failed to trace his brother Mujahid Shabir Ahmad Fallahi.

Mujahid Shabir Ahmad Fallahi is a popular Jama’at-e-Islami leader.

Police sources admitted the raid saying the cops got Noor Mohammad as Shabir was out of his residence.

As the aged couple resisted the arrest of Noor Mohammad, police said a pellet gun “got fired in scuffle and hit the wall”. The officer, speaking anonymously said that some pellets did hit the couple.

Police, however, did leave Noor Mohammad behind to “take care of his parents who were injured”. He is in police custody right now.

Later the couple was driven to the hospital where the lady was given first aid and sent home. Her husband, however, was shifted to SHMS.

The civilian account of the story is not known.

Meanwhile, reports said that one boy Shabir Ahmad was injured in Malpora Kulgam when he was part of a protest that triggered within minutes after police raids in Malpora and Wazpora.

He was hit by a tear smoke shell in his head and was shifted to hospital. The cops had arrested eight boys for their involvement in the protests when the cops and protesters fought during the night.
