Jammu-based oil tanker drivers and owners went on indefinite strike as a protest against government for failing to provide them protection against alleged attacks on oil tankers and drivers in restive Kashmir valley.

The strike has affected the supply of fuel to all regions of state.

As per the reports, the protesting drivers and owners have decided to stop oil supply to army and police as well.

The tanker owners and drivers have been demanding adequate security to travel across valley. “Until the government provides us protection, the tankers will continue to remain off the roads,” a driver who was part of the protests told Kashmir life.

As per the reports, the owners and drivers have stopped loading oil tankers from the depots located in Jammu.

The reports quoted Anan Sharma, president of J&K Oil Tankers Association as having said that they had taken up the matter with the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, and Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu.

On Friday, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali had warned of stern action against stopping of fuel supply to Kashmir.
