SRINAGAR

Intense clashes erupted in North Kashmir’s Palhallan town on Friday afternoon when forces and youths fought pitched battles.

Sources said that thousands of people had come from adjoining villages and offered congregational Friday prayers in Palhallan Eidgah today.

“It was decided that a peaceful rally will be taken out up to Srinagar-Baramulla highway,” local sources said.

“But forces had stationed their wantons near Government Higher Secondary School,” they said, “soon, they started firing pellets and many people were injured.”

“Forces did not allow people to proceed towards the highway and intense stone pelting took place,” the sources said.

Many of the injured people were rushed to SMHS where they are being given treatment.
