Intense clashes erupted in Batamaloo area of Srinagar as soon as authorities decided to lift curfew from Kashmir on 52nd day of uprising.

Local reports said that youths came out on roads and raised pro-freedom anti-India slogans.

The youths had blocked inner roads and erected barricades.

The youths resorted to intense stone pelting while forces resorted to intense tear gas shelling.

“It is mayhem here as forces are roaming in inner lanes,” a local said.

“Forces resorted to intense tear gas shelling while pepper gas was released,” he said.

Protestors had tried to march towards the Batamaloo Bus Stand.

The youths came out from various localities of Batamaloo including Ziyarat Batamaloo, Bazaar Batamaloo, Reki Chowk, Danderkhah, Baran Pather and other adjoining areas.

“Forces tried to enforce curfew but youths defied and stone pelting is going on,” a local caller said, “Azaadi songs are playing from every loud speaker.”

Meanwhile, reports are coming from Old Srinagar’s that clashes erupted in Rainawari and Saida Kadal areas.

“Intense stone pelting is going on at Saida Kadal,” a local resident said.
