J&K police raided headquarter of Jama’at-e-Islami at Batamaloo on Wednesday forenoon.

Sources said that several office bearers of Jama’at were present in the office when forces appeared on the scene.

“Police and SOG men came around 11:30 AM,” sources in the Jama’at central office said.

“They were looking for some leaders but no one was present here,” they said.

However, they said, “the forces arrested Jama’at’s political bureau chief, Advocate Zahid Ali.”

“Only Ali was present amongst the top leadership,” sources said.

Notably, several leaders of Jama’at have been arrested across Kashmir. Some days ago, Jama’at’s Shopian office was raided and two of its top scholars were arrested. Earlier that, house of a popular scholar, Mujahid Shabir Ahmad Falahi, was raided in Tral where his parents were injured in pellet and bullets firing. Mujahid was not present in the office when forces tried to arrest his brother but the elderly couple resisted.
