A pro-freedom rally was attacked in Dooru area of Sopore town by forces including CRPF and police when locals were busy preparing to set up a stage in campus of a local school on Saturday morning.
An eyewitness informed Kashmir Life over phone, “locals in Dooru had set the stage, loudspeakers and sound system worth Rs 2 lakh was also set but police came around 11 am in around eleven vehicles and burnt down the Shamyana, dismantled stage and then took away audio system. The rally was scheduled to start with joint Zuhr prayers.”
Notable to mention, Dooru is native village of Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani.
As soon as the venue was dismantled, the locals said the police and CRPF men march across the ground before leaving the venue.

They also fired pellets and teargas shells in which at least thirteen locals were injured.
Another local added, “after coming out of the ground, forces smashed windowpanes of some houses, damaged electric transformers which caught fire.”
Local reports also revealed that around eight vehicles are still waiting outside the venue and have sealed all entry points.
“But people have already started their march towards the venue where we will be offering joint mid-day prayers,” said a local.
Pertinently, two joint massive congregation prayers were held on Friday in Jamia Masjid Sopore and Nowpora Rafiabad.
