SRINAGAR

On the instructions of right wing BJP led Union Government, a team of “prominent” civil society members from New Delhi is in Kashmir Valley ‘busy’ in interacting with a cross section of society.

Pertinently, the initiative comes after two meetings of civil society activists with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh last month.

Reliable sources said that the civil society members including Delhi based social activist Dr M J Khan and O P Shaw are here in Srinagar from past five days.

“We kept it as a secret because we don’t want media interference in it. We met people but won’t share information about our meetings with the people. We will make our next visit public and will talk to media as well,” Khan said.

Another civil society members and track-II diplomat O P Shaw said that during their visit in Valley “they met a number of separatist leaders”.

“The interactions and meetings are in progress from past five days,” he said but refused to divulge the “names of separatist leaders who met them”.

Another member wishing not to be named said that they have arrived here “on the directions of the government of India with a sole objective to gather information about the perception and mood of the people”.

“It is not a wastage of time but fruitful from our point of view,” he said.
