In view of the march called by unified resistance leadership to United Nations Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) office in Srinagar, All Parties Hurriyat Conference on Friday issued a statement detailing the contents of the “Memorandum” to be submitted to the mission.

In its latest calendar, the resistance leadership has asked people to march to UNMOGIP office at Sonwar here on Friday and submit a memorandum seeking intervention of the world body.

All Parties Hurriyat Conference led by Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani sought immediate intervention of United Nations using its offices to “give people” of Jammu and Kashmir Right to Self Determination.

In the memorandum, the Hurriyat Conference addressing the United Nations said, “besieged people of Jammu Kashmir are facing an unprecedented wave of repression during the last three months.”

The Hurriyat Conference said that the people firmly believe that the United Nations Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP), through its internal information systems, “must be reporting truthfully to Your Excellency (UN Secretary General) on the brutal state violence for last 69 years”.

The Memorandum details the civilians killings, injuries, arrests, detentions under Public Safety Act (PSA), damages to houses and paddy fields at the hands of forces and ban on Kashmir Reader, an English newspaper,

“Yet we,” the memo reads, “the worst victims of violence and state terror for seven decades, believe in peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute based on the universal values of freedom and justice through the internationally acknowledged and promised principle of self-determination.” “We remain open to any effort aimed at achieving the same.”

The Hurriyat Conference has regretted the denial of India to accede to the request UNHRC for access to this part of Kashmir. However, the memo adds, “adding insult to the injury, its foreign minister claimed Kashmir to be integral part of India, from the podium of UN General Assembly; wherein Kashmir remains an oldest internationally acknowledged dispute.”

The Hurriyat Conference said that a war hysteria has been created after claiming ‘surgical strikes’ in “Azad” Kashmir.

In a note of caution, the memo says, “spiralling out of control, this state of affairs can trigger a lethal confrontation in the region, resulting in further destruction of life, resources and property which, we understand, needs to be avoided.”

“Since we believe and understand that Kashmir dispute remains at the centre of the regional conflict, we appeal you to challenge the behaviour of Indian State in Jammu Kashmir and urge it to stop this reign of terror.”

The memo further reads, “in the interest of regional peace and global justice, we once again implore you to intervene and prevail upon the Indian state to initiate processes for granting universally recognised Right to Self Determination to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
