J&K government has imposed restrictions in Srinagar parts on the occasion of 9th Muharram on Tuesday and in view of the Kashmir uprising which has already entered fourth month.

Scores of Shia community members tried to take out a procession from Khanqah-i-Maula Srinagar to Habba Kadal, however, forces lobbed tear gas shells to disperse them off.

“Police and CRPF men used tear gas shells and pellets on the procession which started from Khanqah-i-Maula to Habba Kadal peacefully,” a participant said, “this is not for the first time we took out the procession; we unable to understand why we were stopped to perform our religious practice.”

Heavy forces are deployed in interiors of Srinagar in view of “law and order” situation. Reports said that curfew remains imposed in several police stations which cover major parts of Old Srinagar.

On Monday, on the occasion of 8th Muharram, a group of Shia community members tried to take out procession in Batamaloo, Dalgate and Chattabal areas of Srinagar, who too were disperse off by the men in uniform. The mourners tried to reach Lal Chowk. At Dalgate, the forces fired tear gas shells to disperse off them.
