Family of a prisoner languishing in Kupwara jail Tuesday alleged that orders issued by court are not implemented in Kashmir by the concerned authorities.

“The high court last month issued an order to shift my husband from Kupwara jail to Srinagar so that he could be treated for his multiple ailments,” said wife of Tariq Ahmad Ganai who is undergoing detention in Kupwara jail.

She added that her husband is not being shifted despite court orders hence endangering his life.

“The life of my jailed husband is at risk because he is suffering from diabetes, hypertension and heart ailments at the same time,” she said adding “after my repeated requests court directed his shifting but of no avail because nobody is there to implement the court orders.”

Tariq, a resident of Mimender Shopian according to his wife was arrested in August 2016 in Srinagar and booked under Public Safety Act (PSA). His term of PSA ended on February this year however he was not released and is still languishing in jail.

In the meantime a doctor in the Kupwara jail directed authorities to arrange an advanced treatment for Tariq still authorities failed to shift him to Srinagar for treatment.

“I used to arrange medicine for my husband after consulting doctors on my own level but how can I visit off and on to Kupwara jail,” Tariq’s wife said adding “that is why I had requested court to shift my husband to Srinagar.”

“The court obliged by issuing an order in this regard but still my husband is not shifted,” she said asking “after court whom should I consult now? I wonder”.
