Director General of Police Dr S P Vaid on Wednesday sought societal help for uplifting the lot of physically and mentally challenged segment of society, saying that more than pity, they deserve compassion and love.

 

During his visit to Mentally Retarded Children’s Home at Channi Rama, the Director General of Police in particular exhorted the philanthropic bodies and Non Governmental Organisations to come forward and meet the challenge with regard to their rehabilitation and care, as stated in a statement issued.

Vaid said that “governmental efforts alone will not help to ameliorate the lot of mentally challenged children but people as a whole will have to come forward and contribute their bit in terms of financial and other help. On its part, he said the Jammu and Kashmir Police will see how it can provide help to the inmates to enable them live a dignified life.”

The DGP interacted with the children and the staff and enquired about the facilities being provided to them, the statement added.
