Continuing its efforts to disseminate Basic Life Support training (BLS) at Block levels to various stakeholders of the community, the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir (DHSK) has started a pilot project wherein a nominated team comprising of doctors and paramedics of each health block will be imparted training on modern guidelines.
A statement of the directorate issued here read, “The Directorate in collaboration with International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) had started BLS programme for Master Trainers of the department in 2011 who till now have imparted BLS to around 5000 people which apart from including our own department have been imparting training to Airport staff, Schools children and to other stakeholders.”
“As the requirement of having trained first aid providers within the community has been felt in view of increasing trend of trauma due to Road Traffic and other accidents and vulnerabilities of state due to natural disasters, the Department has conceptualized to train NGO’s, Schools, Colleges, Volunteers, Social Organizations and various other stakeholders who might be the first responder to any accident site,” the statement added.
In this context, the statement said, DHSK will make a pool of BLS Trainers at each health block which under proper guidelines and protocol will be imparting the training and simultaneously generate data about the persons trained in BLS such that at the time of any incident patient management and the stabilization is done on scientific grounds.
“The DHSK has targeted that around 500 health personnel will be trained as BLS trainers across Kashmir Division in a phase wise manner.”
