SRINAGAR

Principal opposition party (PDP) demanded an immediate discussion on the Killings of civilians in Shopian on September 7 and 11 moving a motion of adjournment.

As the question hour started in the legislative assembly, on Tuesday, PDP, Panthers party, BJP, CPI (M) and other members stood up and demanded discussions on different matters. The parties had submitted motions on the issues like army funding and civilian killings.

PDP demanded that its adjournment motion be accepted and discussion be allowed on the Shopian killings.

However, the speaker Mubarak Gul ruled that question hour should continue and any decision about the discussions will be taken later.

It did not satisfy the PDP members and they raised slogans like “Shopian Kay Qatloon Ko paish Karo” resulting in pandemonium in the house.

In the meantime BJP and Panthers party members walked out amid sloganeering demanding dismissal of the state coalition government.

Finally succumbing before the demand of PDP and MY Tarigami, the speaker allowed the discussion on civilian killings in Shopian.
